Talking about problems Tom: " What's the matter? Why are you looking so worried?" Robert: " I've got a few problems at work and I don't know what to do about them." Tom: "Well, why don't we talk  them over  together? That might help you to sort  yourself out ." Robert: "Ok, thanks. Well, first of all, Mario was going to give a very important presentation tomorrow, but he says he's ill and isn't going to be able to do it. I think he's just bottled out  as it's for such an important client. Feeling a bit ill was just the perfect let-out  for him. I'd do it myself but I'm busy with meetings all day." Tom: "Well, that calls for  quick action if the presentation is tomorrow. You'd better do it yourself if it's so important. Just cancel your other meetings." Robert: "I guess I'll have to. The next problem is that personal belongings have been going missing from people...

Stonehenge Monument (Reading)

Image
Stonehenge Monument Stonehenge is an ancient monument situated about ten miles north of Salisbury in England. It was built about 4500 years ago, but by whom and for what purpose remains a mystery. The builders must have known of geometry. They may have been influenced by the Mycenaeans, whose architecture was similar. Some of the stones must have been brought from West Wales, over 135 miles away. These stones weigh more than fifty tons. They may have been brought on rafts and rollers. Experts say that it must have taken 1500 men more than five years to transport them. Stonehenge was probably built in three stages. First, settlers from continental Europe built a temple for sun worship. Later the "Beaker" people added the stone circles. Finally, people of the Wesse Culture transformed Stonehenge into an observatory. They could calculate the exact time of Midsummer and Midwinter and of equinoxes 1. We understand from the passage that the construction of the Stonehen...

The Football Game (Comparatives Part I)

Image
The Football Game Yesterday my brother and I went to see a football game. We watched our two favourite teams, the Eagles and the Hawks. It was the second week of the season and the day was much colder than the week before. We arrived at the stadium at 11:30 am, which is a little earlier than usual. We were excited because I love the Hawks and he loves the Eagles.   The seats were good, but I wanted something closer to the field. However, we sat and enjoyed the game. Well, we  enjoyed it until we started arguing. My brother and I both think our team is better than the other team. He always says to me that the Eagles are faster, stronger, and smarter than the Hawks. I never agree. On this day, he was wrong. The Hawks played a lot better than the Eagles. They looked stronger and tougher than the Eagles. The won by 15 points. One thing I didn’t like was that the food and drinks were much more expensive than other places, and tasted much worse. I was surprised that a hot d...
