Describing character (Vocabulary, Part I)

·         Jane is usually quite relaxed and easy-going,

·         When it’s sunny I feel more cheerful and optimistic;

·         Now I realise that Alan is very warm and kind

·         The shop assistant was honest saying the dress didn’t fit me,

·         George is very nice,

·         Nathan is generous, he always pays the bill;

·         I thought that he is very strong because he is always good,

·         She is very sensitive, she is always crying,

but at the moment she is very tense because of her exams.

but when it’s cold and raining I get very miserable.

but at the first time he seemed unfriendly.


but I think she was a little insensitive too.


but his brother is very unpleasant, he never says hello.

however, his girlfriend is very mean.

but yesterday he showed me how weak he can be.

especially when someone is dishonest with her.


1. Try to guess the meaning of the words in bold related with the character of people:







2. How would you describe the person in each of these descriptions?

  • He never brought me a drink all the time we were together.
  • One of the great things about her is that she is so aware of what other people think or feel.
  • Bob, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. He is always making people angry or upset because he just doesn't consider their feelings.
  • Fiona is always happy and smiling. It's a pleasure to be with her.
  • Jessica never says anything nice about anyone.


3. Time for writing and speaking!
Now you can practice with your teacher and describe someone or, if you are brave, you can describe your teacher. 
If you prefer, you can also do a writing about someone you want to describe, positive or negatively.
