Idioms (Daily Routine)

Daily Routine

Come on! Rise and shine! We've got to leave! There's no time for breakfast. We can get a bite to eat on the motorway. I'll drive and you can have a nap in the back site. When we get there, there'll just be time to freshen up before the meeting. It's going to be a long day; I'll be ready to crash out about 8 o'clock, I should think. Still, we can stay at home the following evening and put our feet up, and just watch the box.

1. Try to guess the meaning of the idioms in bold:

2. Rewrite these sentences using an idiom instead of the underlined bits.
  • There'll just be time to have a quick meal before the show.
  • I think, I'll just go upstairs and have a sleep for a while, if nobody objects.
  • Well, I was very tired and fell asleep on the sofa at about two o'clock, and the party was still in full swing
  • Everybody get up! It's six o'clock and you have to get ready for school.
  • Let's go back to the hotel to have a quick wash before dinner.

3. Time for writing and speaking!
Now you can practice with your teacher and talk about your routine using these idioms. If you think it's difficult, you can also say sentences with them.
If you prefer, you can also do a writing about your routine or write different examples for these idioms.
