Everyday Problems with Machines

  • There 's something wrong with the TV.
  • The shower's not working properly.
  • The telephone is out of order


In the home

  • Paul dropped  a cup yesterday and it broke.
  • He got another cup, made a coffe, and then spilt it. It ruined his T-shirt because there was a large stain on it.
  • He decided to make some toast, but he burnt the first piece, then realised he'd run out of bread. He did not leave home in a good mood.


1. Try to guess the meaning of the previous words related with everyday problems.





2. Speaking time!
  • Say or write logical answers for each of these questions. Use the previous vocabulary.
    • How did you break that glass?
    • Why can't we watch TV?
    • How did you cut your knee like that?
    • I'm cold. What's wrong with the central heating?
    • Where's your homework?
    • What's wrong with this radio?
    • Why can't you use the public phone in the station?
